Characteristics Of Ring Forging

Ring rolling processing of ring forgings is a plastic processing process that makes rings produce continuous local plastic deformation by means of ring rolling machines (also known as ring rolling machines, ring rolling mills and reaming machines), and then realizes wall thickness reduction, diameter expansion and cross-sectional profile forming. The stress, strain and deformation flow of rolling reaming are the same as that of mandrel reaming. Its characteristics are: the tool is rotating, and the deformation is continuous, that is, the rolling of annular billet. Generally, the reduction is small when rolling and reaming, so it has the characteristics of surface deformation. Ring rolling is a continuous local plastic forming process, which is the intersection and combination of rolling technology and mechanical manufacturing technology. Compared with traditional free forging technology, die forging technology, etc., it has significant technical and economic characteristics.

Horse bar is mainly used for reaming of ring forgings during free forging. The stress-strain situation of the horse bar reaming is similar to the elongation, which is different from the elongation of the long axis. It is the elongation of the ring forging blank along the circumferential direction, local loading and overall stress. The metal in the deformed area flows along the tangential direction and the width direction when the horse bar is reamed. When the horse bar is reamed, the metal in the deformed area mainly flows along the tangential direction and increases the inner and outer diameters. The forging with reamed holes on the horse bar generally has a thin wall, so the resistance to the tangential flow of metal in the deformation area of the outer end is much smaller than that in the width direction. The contact surface between the horse bar and the ring forging is arc-shaped, which is conducive to the tangential flow of metal. Therefore, when the horse bar is reamed, the size change of the forging is that the wall thickness decreases, the inner and outer diameters expand, and the width (height) direction slightly increases. Therefore, in small batch and small-sized ring parts, it is more suitable to use horse bar to expand the hole.
